Allah, the Exalted, blessed this Ummah with its greatest blessing: the Noble Qur'an — His speech, which He revealed as guidance, mercy, and light for all the worlds. The Qur'an is not merely a book we recite to earn reward, or place in our homes seeking blessing; it is a way of life, a divine constitution, and the source of guidance that sets right hearts and minds and leads a person to the pleasure of Allah, the Exalted.
From this standpoint, a correct relationship with the Qur'an is not limited to passing recitation, but is built on lasting companionship — a companionship that makes the Qur'an present in one's thought, behaviour, worship, and character, so that it becomes a Muslim's companion throughout every stage of his life.

The Noble Qur'an... Why Is It a Book of Life?
The Noble Qur'an is distinguished by tremendous qualities that make it a Muslim's primary reference, and that drive him to stay close to it throughout his life. Among the most notable of these qualities:
First: It Is the Speech of Allah, the Exalted
The Noble Qur'an is the speech of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, which He revealed to His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through Jibril, peace be upon him, in both wording and meaning. For this reason, it is the greatest source of guidance and the most truthful of speech.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ فِي كِتَابٍ مَكْنُونٍ﴾
Second: A Preserved Book
Allah, the Exalted, took it upon Himself to preserve the Noble Qur'an from distortion and alteration, unlike the previous scriptures, which were subject to change.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ﴾ [الحجر: 9]
For this reason, the Qur'an has remained exactly as it was revealed, standing as proof against mankind until the Day of Judgment.
Third: A Miraculous Book
The Qur'an is an eternal miracle in its eloquence, its legislation, its accounts, and its effect on the soul. Allah challenged mankind and jinn alike to produce something like it, and they were unable to do so.
Fourth: A Book Made Easy to Understand and Remember
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ﴾ [القمر: 17]
It speaks to the sound human disposition (Fitrah), combining depth of meaning with ease of remembrance for whoever approaches it with sincerity.
Fifth: A Comprehensive Book
The Qur'an brought together the foundations of creed, acts of worship, morals, and transactions, and guided man to what sets right both his religion and his worldly life.
Sixth: Valid for Every Time and Place
The Qur'an is not tied to a particular era; it remains a guide for humanity no matter how times change or circumstances shift.
Seventh: A Message for All Worlds
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا﴾ [سبأ: 28]
The Qur'an is a message of mercy and guidance for all people, not for one nation over another.
The Levels of Engaging with the Noble Qur'an
Moving from mere reading to genuine companionship requires progressing through several complementary levels.
First: Memorization
Memorizing the Qur'an helps a Muslim keep the speech of Allah present in his worship and daily life, and draws him closer to divine revelation.
Second: Recitation and Listening
Recitation should be done calmly and with Khushu', with attention to reciting well and listening attentively when the Qur'an is being recited, in compliance with Allah's words:
﴿وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ﴾ [الأعراف: 204]
Third: Reflection (Tadabbur)
Tadabbur is reflecting on the meanings of the verses, connecting them to reality, and internalizing the Iman and action they call toward.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ﴾ [محمد: 24]
The Qur'an was not revealed merely to be recited, but to be understood and acted upon.
Fourth: Correct Understanding
Understanding the Qur'an is not based on personal opinion or desire, but on referring to the interpretation of the Qur'an by the Qur'an itself, the Prophetic Sunnah, the sayings of the Companions, the Arabic language, and the objectives of the Sharia, so that understanding remains disciplined and free from deviation.
How Did the Generation of the Companions Engage with the Qur'an?
The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, received the Qur'an as commands from Allah requiring implementation, not merely information to be memorized.
Whenever a verse was revealed, they hastened to apply it, and the Qur'an transformed their lives, their character, and their behaviour.
In our time, however, some people fall into certain forms of abandoning the Qur'an, such as:
Focusing on beautiful recitation while being weak in acting upon its verses
Limiting oneself to reading without reflection
Merely placing the Mus'haf in the home seeking blessing, without maintaining its recitation
Memorizing verses while falling short in applying their rulings
Allah gave an example of those who carry knowledge yet do not act upon it, saying:
﴿مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا التَّوْرَاةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًا﴾ [الجمعة: 5]
For this reason, the Salaf were keen to act upon a set of verses before moving on to others, so that the Qur'an would become a lived reality in their lives.
The Fruits of Lasting Companionship with the Qur'an
True companionship with the Qur'an bears tremendous effects on the individual and on society, the most important of which include:
Correcting the Creed
The Qur'an builds sound Iman in Allah, the Exalted, and corrects one's understanding of life, the universe, and mankind.
Purifying the Soul
The Qur'an raises the heart upon sincerity, fear of Allah, reliance upon Him, patience, and good character.
Building the Family and Society
The Qur'an instills the values of mercy, justice, trustworthiness, maintaining family ties, and cooperation, which reflects on the stability of the family and the soundness of society.
Establishing a Nation That Bears Witness to Mankind
When the Ummah holds firmly to the Qur'an in both knowledge and practice, it becomes capable of carrying the message of Islam and presenting a civilizational model built on justice and mercy.
How Do You Build a Lasting Companionship with the Qur'an?
Every Muslim can strengthen his relationship with the Qur'an through practical steps, including:
Setting aside a fixed daily portion (Wird) that is never abandoned regardless of circumstances
Reading a concise Tafsir to understand the meanings
Noting down the benefits that strike the reader
Asking oneself after each reading: what does Allah want from me in these verses?
Turning what is read into action and behaviour
Continuously reviewing what has been memorized so that it remains present in the heart
True companionship is not measured by the number of pages read, but by the number of verses that become a lived reality in a Muslim's life.
The Noble Qur'an is the greatest companion of the believer in this world. Whoever sets aside a fixed portion of it for recitation, reflection, understanding, and action, finds its effect in his heart, his worship, and his character.
Let us make our relationship with the Qur'an one of lasting companionship, not limited to occasions or seasons, but extending through all our days, so that the Qur'an becomes our guide in this world, and our intercessor on the Day of Judgment.
We ask Allah, the Exalted, to make the great Qur'an the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, the remover of our sorrows, and to make us among the people of the Qur'an, who are the people of Allah and His chosen ones.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
﴿رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا بِمَا أَنزَلْتَ وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ﴾ [آل عمران: 53]
